I’ve posted footage of spear training, practice at the dojo.
Using two types of spears—a 210cm and a wooden spear—the practice involves repetitive movements of 『swinging practice』 and 『thrusting』.
(For reference, I am 180cm tall.)
There are three key points I focus on:
① When handling long-handled weapons (common to spear, naginata, and staff techniques), use both hands and consciously perform the 『slide motion (shigoki)』.
② Pay attention to operating with both hands (right hand forward, left hand back; or left hand forward, right hand back), maintaining body balance and center of gravity. Also focus on 『dropping the hips and using the entire body』.
③ In naginata and bo techniques, especially after thrusting forward with a spear, I prioritize 『quickly pulling back using the rear hand』before transitioning to the next movement.
Strength training using dumbbells, resistance bands, and bodyweight is also crucial. Personally, I aim to incorporate balanced training and practice using 『weapons』 as well.
I will continue to strive for improvement every day.
