I’ve posted two videos this time featuring left-handed draw (iaido) training using a Japanese sword (shinken).
The second video shows a draw from the left hand (right hip). The third video shows a draw from the right hand (left hip). I hope you enjoy watching them.
Although I am right-handed, I consciously focus on my left hand during martial arts training, practice, and strength training.
There are two reasons for this.
First, to balance the left and right sides of my body.
Second, to master it as one means of offense and defense.
I believe this is important not only for iaido (drawing the sword) but also common across various martial arts and budo disciplines like jujutsu, bojutsu, kusarigama-jutsu, and karatedo.
Can I perform it swiftly, powerfully, and accurately while dropping my hips and knees? I am still an unskilled practitioner, but I will continue to strive diligently.
