On Monday, September 8, 2025, the Goya and Nakasone Lion Dance was performed at the U-Kamiya Plaza, hosted by the Goya Kyoyu Association. I, Nakasone Tomonari, was also able to perform three kata demonstrations in Okinawan (Ryukyu) Kobudo and Okinawan Goju-ryu Karatedo.
The history of the Goya-Nakasone Lion Dance dates back approximately 180 years, originating as a 『purification performance』. Intended to 「foster unity and friendship between the Goya Kyoyu-kai and Nakasone Kyoyu-kai, while praying for further prosperity」, it was temporarily suspended but revived in 1978. It is now held on the 17th day of the 7th month of the lunar calendar, marking its 47th year this year.
This year, Mayor Daisuke Hanashiro (Okinawa City) attended as a guest, and the lion dance was a huge success with many performers and visitors.
I am deeply grateful to all involved that I, a junior member, was able to perform again this year, following last year’s Super Rimpei (karatedo demonstration).
I will continue to dedicate myself wholeheartedly to contributing to my hometown and community.
Your continued support is greatly appreciated.
